Admit it: you love bubble tea, you adore anything salted egg yolk, but deep in you, you love the OG of all foods: sandwiches.

But how many sandwiches in Singapore do you know about?

Here are the 10 of the absolute best sandwiches that have ever happened. If sliced bread is the best invention in Yishun, then the sandwich is the second-best invention in the world.

1. Ice-Cream Sandwich

Okay, so we couldn’t resist. It’s ice-cream sandwich, damn it! How can it go wrong?

To add salt to the injury, this image was taken from a blog from the UK (if the URL is to be believed) and the writer absolutely adored this quaint Asian delicacy.

As someone once commented on our post: Ice-cream sandwich: 1, Moron: 0.

2. Fried Egg and Mayo

The personal favourite of one of our writers here in the office, he swears by frying up an egg, slathering the two slices of bread with a thin layer of mayo before slapping the egg between said bread.

Better than any cafe fare out there. Or so he said.

3. Egg and Cheese

You’ll never go wrong with this. Fry up an egg, place the cheese and egg together between two slices of bread and you’re ready to go.

Toast it if you want gooey cheese that’ll burn your tongue. Alternatively, just let the hot egg melt your cheese. Works either way.

4. Sugar and Butter

Want something savoury and sweet at the same time? Get two slices of bread toasted (the crispier, the better), place a generous amount of butter on said bread and sprinkle with sugar. Liberally.

One awesome sandwich coming up!

5. Condensed Milk

We grew up with condensed milk. From our Ice Milo to Kopi-peng siew dai at coffee shops, you can taste the sweetness of condensed milk in these drinks all the time.

Open that tin of Milkmaid condensed milk, take a butter knife and spread across a slice of bread.

Take a bite, prepare for heaven…and calories.

6. Fried Omelette with Onion (大葱煎蛋)

This is a staple food in Singapore households. Chop up a couple of onions, beat up a couple of eggs and fry them in a pan. The fragrance of onion mixing with egg is probably one of the closest you can get to heaven.

Instead of eating them with rice as you usually do, grab a bread and eat it with the egg. You’ll love me for this.

7. Mars Bar

This was another suggestion by one of the writers in our office. She said her grandma used to make this for her when she was young.

Who cares about fried Mars Bars when you can have this instead? Tastes like chocolate bun.

8. Luncheon Meat with Egg and Cheese

You can never go wrong with luncheon meat. Add this to the combination of egg and cheese and you might find yourself skipping meals just to have this every day.

9. Bak Kwa

A once-in-a-year delicacy for most Chinese families in Singapore, elevate your bak kwa madness to the next level by eating it with bread.

Or porridge. Or rice. Or maggie mee. Anything with Bak Kwa is good.

10. Toasted Bread

Yes, it’s good enough by itself. Especially toasted.
