Singaporean security forces arrested two men after a loaded pistol was found Tuesday in one of their homes in Jurong West.
An unnamed 24-year-old man was arrested at the void deck of a block and subsequently taken into his flat, where they found the firearm, the Central Narcotics Bureau and police announced in a joint statement. The other man, 25 and also unidentified, was arrested at around 2am this morning along Woodlands Street 13.
While he did not possess any firearms, the statement said he was guilty by association.
The man was “suspected to have previously knowingly remained in the company of the first man despite being aware that he was in unlawful possession of a firearm,” it said.
A photo released by the authorities shows the pistol in question along with bullets, a pistol case, gloves, a bag, and a black box allegedly recovered from the home near Jurong West Street 72.
Both men are suspected of drug offenses, the authorities said, though no drugs were found at the Jurong West flat. The statement did not elaborate on their alleged drug crimes or how they came to police attention. It did say it was the narcotics squad that tipped the police off Monday to the 24-year-old suspected of owning the weapon.
Both suspects will appear in court tomorrow. The accused gun owner will be charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, while his older associate will be charged with consorting with a person carrying arms. If found guilty, each faces five years to 10 years in prison, plus a minimum six strokes of caning.
