Looking for an ice cream alternative? Sink your spoon into these vegan flavors for a treat that’s just as tasty

We scream for ice cream, and if you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, go ahead and scream a little louder, as you can get on the sticky sweet action these days too. While Singapore is already sprinkled with ice cream parlours, there’s a steady drizzle of vegan ice cream making its way to our sunny shores. Using plant-based alternatives such as almond, rice, coconut and soy milk, dairy-free ice cream is lower in calories but still big on flavours. So, if you’re ditching dairy or simply looking for a healthier option, these vegan ice cream brands will hit the sweet spot.

Using only fresh and natural ingredients – sans preservatives, refined sugar, artificial flavouring and all those nasties – Kind Kones offers great alternatives to the sugary dessert. Offering a bevy of fun flavors such as cookie butter, cherry pie, black forest and charcoal vanilla, the Malaysian brand proves that vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free ice cream can taste just as good too! You’d never notice the difference. Psst… bring your own container to get 50 cents off the bill.

Smoocht

From the folks who brought you the now-defunct Brownice, Smoocht operates under the same belief, serving up food that does not harm the planet or its animals. Made from brown rice, fruits and pure nut butters, one scoop of ice cream only contains about 80 to 140 calories (yes to more cheat days!).  Expect classic and Asian flavours like chocolate, Thai tea and matcha. Now, don’t mind us if we help ourselves to an extra scoop of dairy-free goodness.

Okay, just for the record, no zebras or any other animals were harmed in the making of this dairy-free treat. Using coconut as the base, the ice cream here is creamy, delish and, not to mention, organic. There are seven flavours to choose from, including salted caramel, chocolate peanut butter and vanilla, and you can get them in tubs at Little Farms. We’re stocking up for our next Netflix binge fosho!

Little Damage

Hailing from Los Angeles, this iconic soft-serve ice cream brand is ready to give your IG feed a pop of colour. Little Damage is often raved about for its poppin’ blue, black and pink shades of ice cream, and it’s just as big on flavour. Yes, we’re aware that it’s not entirely a vegan ice cream parlour, but the dairy-free chocolate and peanut butter banana have stolen our hearts and stomachs. The petite outlet at Wheelock Place even has a photobooth, plus merchandise like tote bags, pins, water bottles and t-shirts up for grabs.

The Ice Cream & Cookie Co.

You know what’s even better than ice cream? An ice cream cookie sandwich. The makers behind this brilliant combo offer frosty flavours like toasted marshmallow, English Earl Grey, and milk and cookies, but they also throw in a good mix of dairy-free and vegan choices. Yep, even the cookies are vegan! Try options like coconut or dark chocolate for a not-so-guilty treat, and if you want more, sink your spoon into the tubs instead.
The Ice Cream & Cookie Co., pints are available at Fairprice Finest, Cold Storage and RedMart, and ice cream cookie sandwiches are available online.
