Gov.sg hints at return of Phua Chu Kang to support ‘fight against Covid-19’ – – News from Singapore, Asia and around the world

Phua Chu Kang is an iconic figure in Singapore pop culture.

His eponymous show, the original one, ran for eight seasons.

The mole, the boots, the perm, the catchphrases.

Unironically one of the best in Singapore, JB, and some say Batam.

One of his more iconic turns as Phua Chua Kang came when he took part in a public service rap known as “SAR-vivor rap”.

If you don’t remember it, whoa you’re young, but here’s something to jog your memory.

Steady ah.

And now as we are facing another coronavirus outbreak, he might be back again.

The boots, it can only be him.

Gov.sg initially posted another image with the boots and a different iconic line.

While it is 99 per cent going to be Phua Chu Kang, it is unclear if he will come back with a rap. Although Mothership understands it definitely is a video.

Firstly, Covid-19 is a little less rap-friendly than SARS.

Secondly, there have been efforts to come up with a similar catchy earworm for Singaporeans.

Bye Bye Virus is not only a song, but also a dance, and includes moves that have been made popular amongst teenagers on the internet, such as the “woah”.

Here is the video.

Please come back Phua Chu Kang.

We have reached out to Gurmit Singh for comment.

Here he is answering some other questions.

A Minstry of Communications and Information spokesperson said: “The video will be out at 2pm (today) on our Gov.sg platforms”.
