Singapore might be a small place but that doesn’t stop areas within Singapore from being unique and interesting.

Choa Chu Kang wants to be the west when it’s north, Jurong is where you need a passport to travel to.

Yishun is known for being Singapore’s Wild West, Toa Payoh is known for being old.

So what is Hougang known for? Strange, strange names for shops.

Here are 8 shops in Hougang with kooky names you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

1. Not Nice Bee Hoon

Now, here’s a food stall with an unconventional approach. You know how those films which are hyped up like crazy usually end up disappointing audiences in the theatres? Well, this stall has gone the other way and basically warned their customers that their bee hoon is awful.

Maybe the hope is that customers will think “Hmm, it can’t be that bad”, and end up trying it as a result.

Or, you, know, maybe they really don’t want any customers.

2. Uncle Bakery

Either this is a bakery specifically targeted at men over the age of 45 or an actual ‘Uncle’ runs the stall.

But whichever it is, you’ll probably go in just out of curiosity.

3. Babelicious

This boutique promises to make you look “babelicious”. So even if you go in as a 75-year-old uncle, you’ll come out looking like Jennifer Lawrence. Probably.

4. Residents Optical

This optical shop is strictly for residents. Residents of what? We’re not sure.

Some people tend to create a “fake life” on Instagram, but have you ever wondered why they did that? Watch this and you might realise that you’re responsible for their actions:

5. A(+)ffordable Clinic

This clinic is not only affordable but arrogant as well. Who the hell gives themselves an A+? But hey, at least the sign is creative.

6. Neighbourhood Medical Clinic

This is a bit like naming a soup restaurant Soup Restaurant. It is exactly as advertised on the sign.

7. Sincerely Unisex Saloon

This saloon clearly takes its suitability for both sexes very seriously. Maybe they had a look at their email sign off and thought, hmm, yeah that’ll make a good name for our saloon.

8. Neighbouring Cut

Based on the name, I’m assuming there are no hairdressers here, and that customers cut the hair of the people next to them.

I’m sure your interest has been piqued. Are these places as interesting as their names? There’s only one way to find out.
