On Friday (13 Dec), the popular fashion retailer reported a data breach, with personal and credit card information potentially accessed.

In an email sent to customers titled ‘Important Notice’, a Love, Bonito spokesperson confirms that they discovered a malicious code being added to their e-commerce site on 10 Dec.

They have since taken immediate action to remove the code and employed necessary measures to secure their systems.

It is not known how many customers have been affected by this data breach at the time of writing.

Responding to MS News’ queries, a Love, Bonito spokesperson informed that the malicious code in question has affected a “small number” of their customers.

The relevant authorities have been notified, and we are working closely with them and our security vendors to investigate and resolve this matter.

She said the case is currently still under investigation, and no further details can be provided for now.

Data security expert conducting forensic investigation

The spokesperson said Love, Bonito has engaged a data security expert to conduct a forensic investigation of the incident.

They will continue to “review, audit and enhance security controls and processes”.

Additionally, they have reported the matter to the Personal Data Protection Commission and Singapore Police Force, and will work to assist their investigations.

Remedial steps for customers affected by the breach

The spokesperson told MS News that customers affected by the data breach are advised to look out for any unauthorised charges made to their payment card or personal accounts.

Should there be any dubious charges, customers are advised to report it to their respective banks ASAP.

They should also ensure that the 2FA system is in place for their credit cards.

If unsure, customers should also notify their banks and request for a replacement for their credit cards.

In the meantime, the fashion retailer has also set up a free “credit monitoring service” so affected customers can monitor the usage of their personal data.

Instructions and details on how to sign up for this service will be provided in the coming days.
