From authentic old school delights to modern Singaporean cuisine, here are all the National Day dining menus and deals you need in your life right now
If there’s one thing that unites the nation, it’s food. From hunting down new restaurants to hanging out at many supper spots, this bustling city sees no shortage of options. Hell, we’d even queue for hours at our favourite hawker centres for a solid meal. Paying homage to the local culinary scene, these restaurants have put together special National Day dining menus (and deals!) that are too good to miss. This year, many have taken it up a notch by bringing lesser-known names to the table and also adding their own spin on classic dishes.
Ding Dong collabs with ex-Masterchef contestants for a nostalgic eight-hands dinner
Remember when Zander Ng won the very first season of Masterchef Singapore? He, along with fellow ex-contestants, Genevieve Lee (runner-up) and Aaron Wong (finalist), are joining hands with Ding Dong’s head chef, Miller Mai for a special collab. Aptly named, ‘Home Truly’, the eight-hands dinner menu is inspired by their favourite childhood eats in Singapore – peppered with the Masterchef touch, of course. The menu has unassuming dishes like Samsui chicken, otah-otah, roasted duck, chilli crab and kuih pie tee, mini bao with rendang beef cheeks and scotch egg with nouc cham (a Vietnamese dipping sauce) – but one look at that picture above and we just know that we’re in for a visual and culinary treat!

A scrumptious four-course spread plus fireworks at The Sampan
Our idea of a great night out is simple. Just tick the basics like amazing food, unique drinks and sweet, sweet vibes and we’ll be there. The Sampan has it all, and then some. A new kid on the buzzing Boat Quay stretch, this restaurant and bar is strategically located by the Singapore River so you can watch the fireworks while devouring on Pan-Asian dishes. The four-course menu does fusion right by combining the best elements of iconic local fare. Case in point: dishes like lemak chilli chicken kueh pie tee, rendang chwee kueh, duck satay lilit, lamb shank tulang merah and pulut hitam pudding have already caught our attention.

Go loco for local hawker delights at Parkroyal on Pickering
The theme is luxe meets local at Lime as the restaurant dishes out fancy twists tno our hawker faves. Think Alaskan king crab meat char kway teow, lobster roti jala, Hokkien noodles with baby lobster and steamed oysters paired with Thai, chili, mala or sambal belachan dips. Atas much? Traditionalists, hold your horses, local dishes like Hainanese chicken rice, fried carrot cake, bak kut teh with pork ribs, chicken satay and chilli crab are also in the mix. Don’t leave without trying lesser-known desserts like pong piah (Hokkien biscuits), orh nee (a Teochew dessert made with yam paste and gingko nuts), an assortment of Nonya kuehs and of course, the beloved ice kacang. Talk about choice paralysis. Psst… groups of four or more adults enjoy 15% off the total bill.

Satay, seafood and barbeque specials by the river at The Fullerton Hotel
The Fullerton Hotel is firing up the grill and throwing a massive soiree by the river. Expect a kaleidoscope of local grill favourites, including sambal stingray, barbecued king prawns and the star of the show – fragrant, tender and perfectly charred chicken, beef, mutton and pork satay by local satay connoisseurs, Chims’ Satay. Ahh… we can already imagine the heavenly smells. That’s not all – make a res on Friday or Saturday to enjoy a seafood medley of grilled king prawn, mud crab, salmon medallion and squid. Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, beef rendang and Chef Chan’s signature salted egg yolk lobster (available on Fridays and Saturdays) are also available. Oh, and you have to add a glass of house beer, wine or Singapore Sling ($10 nett per glass) to complete the meal!

A special five-course National Day menu at Mitzo
Count on mod-Cantonese restaurant, Mitzo, to bring us the most intriguing contemporary twists to classics. The five-course menu highlights must-try dishes like scallop spring roll, spicy chicken otah stuffed with lotus root, prawn with red yeast mayo, abalone bak kut teh and cheese baked chilli lobster. End your meal with longevity tea served with sesame ball or the National Treasure ($21++), a refreshing cocktail specially prepared for Singapore’s bicentennial (available from 15 July to 31 August).

National Day mystery menu at Nox – Dine in the Dark
Can’t decide what to eat this National Day? Nox is making things easier for you. Travel through a four-course mystery set menu featuring 14 dishes inspired by local flavours. Yup, that’s all the info you get. Pictures of the menu items will be shown to you after the tasting but you’ll have to play the guessing game each course. Before you dine in the dark, kick it off at the lounge area with amuse bouche and a National Day-inspired cocktail or mocktail.

Chicken rice burgers at Potato Head and Three Buns
Potato Head and Three Buns are bringing back the highly raved about, ‘chick in rice’ burger ($19++) – yes, it’s chicken rice reimagined into a burger. Revisit the familiar flavours through sous vide chicken breast covered in ginger and garlic, and slow-roasted chicken thigh confit topped with a spicy combo of chilli sauce and ginger jam (‘cos what’s chicken rice without the chilli, right?), and what seems like a cucumber and scallion coleslaw with creamy ginger mayo to balance the heat. We recommend ordering the chick in rice set ($27++) which comes with a pot of chicken broth and a side of five-spiced fries, drizzled with anise mayo, toasted sesame seeds and pickled chillies. Both locations are also extending their operating hours during the long weekend, so feel free to drop by for supper.

Chilli crabmeat pasta and sago pudding with gula melaka at Lawry’s The Prime Rib
Thought you could only get a tender slab of steak and legendary sides at Lawry’s? Think again. This year, they’ve introduced a special four-course menu with a choice of Singapore’s favourite chilli crabmeat linguine pasta, and a local dessert, sago pudding with gula melaka and Häagen-Dazs ice-cream. Of course, you could also opt for the signature roasted USDA prime rib of beef but aren’t we all about the local love, this August?

A culinary heritage buffet at Swissôtel Merchant Court
If you’re looking for iconic local dishes in one seating, look no further than Ellenborough Market Café at Swissôtel Merchant Court. A culinary heritage buffet is exactly what you’ll get here. Open for lunch and dinner, the rotational menu includes everything from your traditional chicken rice, fried carrot cake, and Nyonya laksa to less-known dishes like bak kut teh (tender pork rib soup), stir-fried Hokkien mee and satay bee hoon; and Peranakan delights such as kueh pie tee (mini pastry shells filled with shredded turnip, prawn and egg), Nyonya chap chye (a vegetable stew), ayam buah keluak (chicken braised in a thick, spicy tamarind gravy).
We also love that there are DIY fruit rojak and ice kacang stations to customise the dish according to your liking (pile on the gula melaka!). End your meal on a sweet note with local dishes like chendol mousse cake, apam balik (similar to the ones we found at the Geylang Bazaar), and the creamy durian pengat.

Beloved seafood dishes made local at The Halia’s long brunch weekend
If you’re all about brunch (even if it means getting up bright and early during a long weekend), chances are that you’ve been to The Halia. Tuck into seafood dishes like the chilli crab cottage pie ($24++), a classic cottage pie with a local twist of spicy chilli crab; or an Asian-inspired fish and chips ($28++) with sides like curried pea puree, seaweed fries and ginger flower sambal aioli. Stay for the tropical trifle ($10++), a refreshing and fragrant dessert layered with coconut custard, guava jelly and cardamom chantilly.

Wow, Carousel at Royal Plaza on Scotts has really taken our favourite pastime to heart. The halal restaurant has got you covered from breakfast to dinner with a lineup of local delights like kaya and butter toast with soft boiled eggs and a live kopi C and teh terik station (for breakfast), rojak, oyster omelette and laksa (for high tea), and chilli crab with mantou and BBQ sambal stingray (for lunch and dinner). And for dessert, indulge in chendol gateau, gula melaka creme brulee and local-inspired ice-cream flavours like kaya toast, chendol and milk tea. You know where to find us *wink*.
