Over 100 bars will be taking part in Negroni Week 2019, including The Old Man Singapore (above)

Ain’t no Negroni without Campari! Sip on the 100-year-old cocktail, discover its history and do good at Negroni Week’s fifth edition.

When Count Camillo Negroni asked his bartender to strengthen his Americano cocktail by switching club soda for gin back in 1919, we’re pretty sure he did not see the prevalence, popularity and praise coming. And 100 years later, the three-ingredient cocktail with a citrus twist is so popular, it even has its very own Negroni Week.

This year, Singapore celebrates its fifth year of Negroni Week from 24 to 30 June 2019, with an expected 100 bars participating in celebration of the Negroni’s 100th anniversary. Like always, all participating bars will pledge at least a dollar to a chosen charity for every Negroni or Negroni-inspired tipple served.

Andrew Loudon at Tippling Club helms the Sonic Negroni

So what are we looking forward to this year? For starters, sip on Tippling Club’s Sonic Negroni ($24++) a geeky science-led approach by head bartender, Andrew Loudon that blends Campari and sweet vermouth with Gin sound waves for a unique twist. Tippling Club will donate $2 per cocktail to the Singapore Cancer Society.

One of our favourite hot new bars, The Old Man will present bartender, Louis Tan Chuan Meng’s The Final Straw ($22++) a concoction of Campari, sweet vermouth and a special strawberry redistilled gin. A dollar of each cocktail will go to Plastic Oceans International which ties in well with the Old Man’s efforts to eliminate straws and coasters. Also, Rusty Cerven ($25++) of Skai Bar will be adding a local twist on The Eastern Forager using locally-sourced ingredients. The bar will be donating $2 per cocktail to Slow Food International – a cool organisation that aims to conserve local food cultures and traditions.

And then some…

Coffee lovers will love Ce La Vi‘s Caffe Negroni ($24++) stirred with a cold brew coffee Campari infused. Smoke & Mirrors is serving both the Classic Negroni ($20++) for purists and the La Fumata Bianca ($28++), a bitter drink inspired by the 100-year-old cocktail. Neon Pigeon‘s oh-so-tropical Royal Negroni made with a pineapple rum and charred pineapple infused Vermouth is one of four interesting renditions. Also on the special menu is the Hana No Hanran with a spiced sakura tea float, Kuroi Ushi with a coffee infused Black Cow Vodka (milk vodka, anyone?) and a Teared Negroni made with rosemary-infused sake and umeshu, all at $20++.

Mandarin Oriental’s Mo Bar is going all out with four Negroni cocktails for a one-night-only Italian Bar Takeover on 30 June to celebrate the last day of Negroni Week. Enjoy renditions of the classic ($24++) made by four Italian bartenders –Davide Mollica of Como Dempsey, Davide Boncimino of Madame Fan, Giovanni Graziadei of Jigger & Pony and of course, Mo Bar’s Michele Mariotti.

Plus, there are over 100 participating bars in town so you can expect a buzzing Negroni-filled week ahead…
