A 35-year-old staff nurse at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday (March 11).
The nurse, who is a Filipino national and a Singapore Work Pass Holder, was in the Philippines between Feb. 11 and 17. She lives at Jurong East Street 21.
She went to work at the hospital from Feb. 18 to March 8, when she first reported symptoms. She worked in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
According to Foo, the nurse did not attend to any patients with confirmed cases of Covid-19 for the past 14 days.
She complied with all daily temperature checks and monitoring of health, and abided by the Personal Protective Equipment guidelines.
After developing a cough on March 8, the nurse sought treatment at NTFGH on March 9, and stayed at home until her test results confirmed her infection on Tuesday (March 10). She is currently warded in an isolation room at NTFGH.
According to Foo, the hospital have disinfected common staff areas and are performing contact tracing.

The nurse is the wife of Patient 178, a 37-year-old Filipino national and a Singapore Work Pass Holder.
Her husband, who was in the Philippines two days longer than her, Feb. 11 until Feb. 19, is also warded in an isolation room at NTFGH.
He was also confirmed to have come down with Covid-19 but on Wednesday morning, March 11.
Apart from being there from Feb. 11-19, he travelled back to the Philippines again from Feb. 23 to March 2 to visit a relative with pneumonia, who has since died.
He, too, is in isolation at NTFGH.
Here’s the full information provided by MOH on the two cases:
Case 178 is an imported case involving a 37-year-old male Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder.
He had been in the Philippines from Feb. 11 to Feb. 19, and again from Feb. 23 to Mar. 2 to visit a relative with pneumonia who has since passed on.
He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on Mar. 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH).
He is a family member of Case 167.
Case 167 is a 35-year-old female Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and is a family member of Case 178.
She had been in the Philippines from Feb. 11 to Feb. 17. She is currently warded in an isolation room at NTFGH.
She reported onset of symptoms on Mar. 8 and had sought treatment at NTFGH on Mar. 9.
Subsequent test results confirmed Covid-19 infection on Mar. 10 afternoon.
She is employed as a staff nurse at NTFGH and had been at work prior to hospital admission. She stays at Jurong East Street 21.

“As announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH), a nurse from the Emergency Department (ED) at our hospital has tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 10 March 2020.
While at work, our nurse had complied with PPE guidelines and infection control measures and did not, in the course of her clinical duties, attend to any confirmed COVID-19 patients in the last 14 days. While she travelled to the Philippines with her spouse from 11-17 February 2020 (and her spouse took an additional solo trip to the Philippines from 23 February – 2 March), our nurse who had been at work since 18 February, was well and complied with daily temperature-taking and monitoring of health.
However, she developed a cough on 8 March and sought prompt medical attention at our staff clinic the next morning. She stayed at home until her swab result was confirmed on 10 March, and was transported back to our hospital. She is currently being cared for in an isolation room. Her spouse was admitted yesterday and tested positive today; he is warded in an isolation room.
We have since taken immediate measures, including reaching out to our ED colleagues and will be monitoring the team closely in the days ahead. We have disinfected all the common staff areas in ED such as the changing rooms, toilets, pantry, rest spaces, lifts, etc. Contact tracing is also underway. We will continue with daily checks and audits on infection control practices and PPE compliance, and will remind all staff to adhere to measures to safeguard patients and fellow colleagues.”
