The latest judgment on the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) lawsuit involving Workers’ Party (WP) parliamentarians Low Thia Khiang, Pritam Singh and Sylvia Lim has given pro-ruling party fanpage, ‘Fabrications About the PAP,’ buckets of fodder for poking fun at the opposition politicians.

The fanpage – which already has an axe to grind with the politicians just based on their opposition to the People’s Action Party (PAP) – has been having quite an extended field day attacking the three Members of Parliament (MPs) days after the High Court judgment finding the MPs liable for damages in the AHTC lawsuit was released.

Today (14 Oct), the fanpage – which boasts over a quarter of a million followers – published an inflammatory post and attempted to use the “ownself check ownself” line against WP secretary-general Pritam Singh.

The phrase “ownself check ownself” was coined by Mr Singh himself during an election rally. Referring to Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong’s declaration that “We (the PAP) are our own checks,” Mr Singh famously dubbed it in Singlish as “ownself check ownself” and asked Singaporeans if this is a system they want in Singapore.

The phrase became so famous that it came to be widely used against the dominant ruling party in recent years.

‘Fabrications About the PAP’ has now tried to use the phrase to attack the party run by the man who coined the term. The page claimed: “Pritam Singh don’t believe in ownself check ownself. This is what caused the debacle at AHTC…

“The Workers Party would be well advised to learn from LKY & his PAP, ruthlessly demanding honesty, especially from the people around you, no cover up no matter how embarrassing it might get.”

This is not the first time the page has attacked Mr Singh and the WP. In the past, the page administrator Jason Chua has been accused of launching a series of fake news attacks against Mr Singh:
