When some says nasi lemak, Singaporeans will think of it as one of their favourite food. However, recently, the term nasi lemak has been more related to porn when news emerged in the media of the presence of the group “SG Nasi Lemak” on Telegram chat.
The Telegram group surfaced and came to the wider public’s attention in September 2019 after several women reported finding their photos shared on the platform, in various state of undress. Upskirt photos were also found of unsuspecting women. At the platform’s peak, it had between 44,000 to 46,000 members. Police have confirmed that they have arrested 4 men for their connections to the chat group.
The suspects arrested are aged between 17 and 37. They have been arrested for their “suspected involvement in circulating obscene materials and promoting vice activities” through the group, the authorities said. Investigations revealed that the 26-year-old man and 37-year-old man are the administrators behind the said chat group, while the 17-year-old and 19-year-old teenagers are the distributors of the obscene materials.
The Police, however, did not comment on how they manage to identify the four as suspects, as the Telegram platform is supposedly encrypted and promotes anonymity.
