Singapore news today | Another HDB Unit Catches Fire, 4 People Taken To Hospital

Yet another HDB flat caught fire, continuing the unwanted trend of HDB units catching fire over the past month. The latest fire occurred at a HDB flat located at Jurong West on Sunday evening, 18th August. SCDF also confirmed that four people have been taken to hospital as a result of the fire.

SCDF said they responded to a fire in a fifth-floor unit of Block 158 Yung Loh Road at about 7.45pm and put out the fire with a water jet. Of the four people taken to hospital, this include a woman who had to be rescued from a kitchen ledge by firefighters. She had apparently been on the ledge hanging on for dear life for about 20 minutes. Her neighbours saw her on the ledge, and notified the SCDF officers immediately.

Based on eye witnesses account, the woman stay in the flat with her two sons and her husband. It was not yet known what caused the fire. The recent spat of HDB unit fires had been caused by PMD charging by the flat owners.
