On Mar. 21, comedian Kevin T. Porter asked for a little kindness from his followers — by telling stories of Ellen Degeneres being mean.
Calling Degeneres “one of the meanest people alive”, Porter pledges to donate S$2 to the LA Regional Food Bank for every story.
And judging from the responses, it seems Porter may have to break bank.
The tweet has gotten more than 6,400 retweets, 41,000 likes, and 1,500 comments.
Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about! 😊❤️
She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive
Respond to this with the most insane stories you’ve heard about Ellen being mean & I’ll match every one w/ $2 to @LAFoodBank

Here are some horror stories of the 62-year-old TV host, as told by employees, wait staff, and industry peers.
For one, she seems to really have a thing against chipped nails.
I worked @RealFoodDaily, served her & Porsha at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand). I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morn, almost got me fired.

I can’t vouch for anything being “real” if it didn’t happen to me, but this is as close as I can get:
My friend who worked at Real Food Daily says Ellen came in and dined and when she saw her server had a chipped nail, Ellen called management and tried to get her fired.

Was wrking on a show @ WB that was next to her stage. Was our showrunner’s 50th Bday. Caterer grilling steaks outside for special fancy lunch. Ellen sent someone over to demand they stop, as she doesn’t eat meat. She’s the worst.

i was PAing for the Letterman special and her rider was 50 items long and one was specific vegan cauliflower puffs that are rarely sold so i had to drive to 15 different grocery stores to find it and she didn’t even touch them

This was back in the day (she was sporting her Carson era mullet), we were in gym and doing crunches as we would commonly do to start the class. Ellen ripped a loud fart and then tried to blame it on me. 😡

Heard recently that Ellen, the supposed animal lover, has a bad habit of adopting really cute kittens and puppies but as they get older she’ll get tired of them and force friends, family or staff to adopt them.

Several people have come up with incidents of Degeneres allegedly ignoring her staff on purpose.
The staff were reportedly not allowed to make eye contact with the TV host, either.
My sister wants me to emphasize that Portia was always very nice

An old friend worked on her lot & smiled & said “good afternoon” to her one day & she became unhinged. “Who do you think you are? You don’t look at me” yada yada. She said Portia was with her & seemed embarrassed & tried to calm her down. Has forever changed my opinion of her.

B) A new staff member was told “every day she picks someone different to really hate. It’s not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she’ll be mean to someone else the next day. They didn’t believe it but it ended up being entirely true.

I once said hi to Ellen on the WB lot because we were literally walking two feet from each other coming from opposite directions and SHE made eye contact with ME. She rolled her eyes and proceeded to get into her Porsche.

Another friend of mine was a PA on her show and when Russell Brand came into the employee break area to chat with the crew and hang out, Ellen came in and got mad at him – saying he didn’t have to interact with these people, that’s why guests have their own area backstage.

I lived in LA, got my hair done at Mèche, where there were a lot of celebrities. I always asked employees who was the meanest, who was the nicest. Nice: Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Rita Wilson. Mean: Ellen (overwhelming number) and Charlize Theron (saw first hand).

Among all the horror stories, though, someone came forward with a positive experience.
I once worked on an American Express commercial with her and Beyoncé. We talked and i made a joke that made them both laugh. She was actually really nice. I think Beyoncé was high.

Two days later, Porter counted about 300 stories of Degeneres, and donated S$600 to the food bank.
Well this got out of hand! It’s now hard to tell which stories are real or not, so I’ve rounded up to 300 and donated $600! pic.twitter.com/dX08ybhdos

While Degeneres has not directly addressed the accusations so far, followers felt that she was responding indirectly to it in a video of her building LEGO, according to The Mirror.
