Sunway Big Box Opens In JB, 20 Min From Tuas Checkpoint
An annual road trip to Johor Bahru’s Legoland may already be on the cards for many Singaporean families. So we come bearing glad tidings — a massive open-air strip JB mall will be right next door as early as 18 Dec.
On Friday (6 Sep), Sunway Big Box – an upcoming shopping destination in JB – recently held their unveiling ceremony and announced their opening date in December 2019.
The shopping haven will have a park, hotel and more than 100 outlets offering retail goods, entertainment, food & beverage options.
Big boxes & relaxing parks
Sunway Big Box will literally consist of big boxes or warehouse-like structures.
While the company has not released the details about the experience in each building, the massive development space will occupy 24 acres (97,000 square meters) — or 18 times the size of a regular football field.
What makes it distinct from most malls we’ve seen is that they’ll have parks and open piazzas where you can take a breather with friends and family.
100+ retail outlets
Sunway Big Box boasts of more than 100 retail outlets. Their diverse offerings include books, home & living, sports, gadgets, hardware, fashion, and entertainment.
During the opening ceremony, the company revealed 6 key partners such as NSK, BookXcess, Golden Screen Cinemas, Caltex, SSF, MOX, Ace Hardware — so we bet that they’ll be setting up shop too.
Thanks to the Singapore dollar’s rise against the Malaysian Ringgit, Marvel movie tickets at Golden Screen Cinemas could be cheaper than local prices.
X-treme park with Go-Karts & ATVs
Sunway Big Box’s upcoming X-treme park could also be a new JB destination for thrill-seekers and adventurers.
Details haven’t been fully released on Sunway Big Box’s branch but we hope to see similar rides to a nearby X-Park in Sunway Iskandar.
Aspiring F1 racers can compete with their friends or meet new opponents because X-Park Sunway Iskandar offers heart-racing Go-Kart sessions.
You can take your love for racing to the next level by riding powerful all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) across various adventure courses.

Sunway Big Box opens on December
Sunway’s Retail Park will open its doors on 18 Dec.
The mall is a 20-minute bus ride from Tuas Checkpoint. To reach Sunway Big Box, alight at the bus from Jurong East Interchange or Tuas Checkpoint and depart at Citrine Sunway Big Box.
Sunway Big Box is also a 20-minute drive from Tuas Checkpoint and a 10-minute drive from Legoland.
It is accessible from major roads which include the Pasir Gudang Highway, Second Link Expressway, Singapore-Johor Bahru Inner Link Road, as well as Bukit Timah Expressway. There are about 2,000 car parks available for vehicle owners.
