Because if you’re vertically challenged, you’d get free food.
Taiwan Hotpot Restaurant Gives One Slice of Meat for Every CM for People Who Are Less than 175cm
Head down to 爱食锅麻辣鸳鸯 in Kaohsiung City and you’ll have thought that this is yet another hotpot restaurant.
But stroll through their Instagram tagged images and you’ll see images like this:
Are they promising that you’ll grow taller after having a meal there?
Well, it’s the opposite.
Since May this year, they’re rewarding you for being…vertically challenged.
Lest you’ve returned your Chinese to your Chinese teacher, here’s what the sign says (I made it poetic ‘cuz why not):
Your height shouldn’t determine you
Consuming Meat shouldn’t stress you
From now on, anyone less than 175cm
Will get a slice of meat for every cm
Suffice to say, Shakespeare will be proud and my colleague XiaoBeach73 would be happy.
A number of people have accepted the challenge and obviously, the ladies have the benefit since they’re usually less than 170 cm.
However, here’s the kicker: there is a minimum spend of NT$688 per person, which is roughly about SGD$30.20.
Not exactly the price you’d have expected from a Taiwan restaurant.
But some of the items there look Instagram-worthy, like their bear-shaped steamboat…
…their neatly placed meat…
…and, erm, Taiwan meimeis there.
There are three outlets there, and unfortunately none of them is in Taipei (Singaporeans’ favourite):

According to a Google user, the opening hours are from 5:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. from Monday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
It’s supposedly closed on Sunday, but since there hasn’t been any confirmation by the restaurant, you might want to call at +886 7 221 0288 (one of the outlets’ number) before heading down.
