Take The Trip at this intensive spin class (Photography via Virgin Active)

Exercise can be HARD, we know, but these aren’t your average workouts – you might be tricked into thinking you’re having fun…

When we think of exercise, we get sweaty just by thinking of stuffy gyms, squeezing in lunchtime workouts, and stressing about why can’t get up that flight of stairs without losing our breath. If your natural habitat is anywhere but the gym but you want to work on your fitness, we found some unique workouts that might just be your thing…

Immersive spinning

The Trip takes participants on a journey through digitally created worlds, using a 270-degree cinema-scale screen and rhythmic beats to immerse you in new and imaginative worlds. Explore the outdoors as you twist and turn along the guided route, pedalling through virtual towns and navigating the undulating reefs of an underwater realm. Led by certified and trained instructors, it’s like being in a movie theatre with bikes instead of seats.

Aquaspin

Out of the gym, and into the pool for an Aquaspin class. It’s exactly what you think it is – exercise bikes in a swimming pool. Sounds all fine and dandy but you burn up three times more calories than you would with land-based exercises – and without the muscle and joint stress! Check out Aquaspin at our upcoming event Live Better: a day of inspiration for your mind, body and soul happening 26 January 2019. Tickets are just $10 so be quick!

Vibrate your way to fitness. Photography: Croyez Studio Singapore

Power plate

Power-Plate is a machine that gives the body’s muscles a high-speed workout by using vibrations to stimulate them to contract and relax. It’s claimed that 10 minutes on the Power-Plate – basically a board that vibrates – will have the same results as 60 minutes of conventional strenuous training. Other miraculous things it promises are improving strength, flexibility and blood circulation, while reducing cellulite, muscle loss and recovery time from injuries. It ain’t easy: you DO need to learn how to adjust your balance and coordination while using the machine, but workouts often end with some damn good massages.

Trampoline

One good thing about trampoline-ing is that you’ll never be still. You’ve seen various trampoline parks open in Singapore and while you think it may be something for the kids, most parks have areas designed for different interests and various levels of difficulty, so young tots, older teens, adults and fitness enthusiasts are catered for. Take the leap of faith!

Get on board with fitness! Photography: Surfset

Surfboard yoga

The Surfset workout method is, unsurprisingly, inspired by surfing. It combines elements of aerobic fat burning, lean muscle building, and balance and  core training in one 45-minute routine, performed on top of a custom-made unstable surfboard. Drawing inspiration from the adventurous spirit of surfers, each workout is designed to push your limits for ultimate results. Surfset Fitness focuses heavily on the core, where all of our strength and body control stems from. Gnarly.

Work out at sea. Photography via SUP yoga Singapore)

If Surfset yoga feels too indoorsy for you, try out the real thing – on water. Imagine trying to balance or perfect your pose while on a board, on water. Sounds challenging, yes? Sure, but at least we’ll be out at sea. Canine friends are invited too!
