While we can’t cross the border for some lok lok right now, head down to Fei Zhu Lok Lok to get your fill of the popular Malaysian street snack. Here, there are over 20 skewered meats and vegetables to choose from, priced at $1 each. To accompany your skewers, there are four sauces available, of which we enjoyed their house-made sauce, and an unnamed, mayo-based dip. For some carbs to go along with your meal, opt for the Shiok Rice ($1) or Shiok Noodles ($1).

In line with the pink theme of this cafe, be sure to get the Pink Sugar’s Bandung Souffle Pancake ($17.90). This comes dressed with rose-flavoured cream and dried rose petals, served on a pink mirrored tray. There’s also the Red Velvet Latte ($7+), a dark pink-coloured drink, if you’d like to take the pink obsession to the next level. Otherwise, the dish we enjoyed most was their Peri Peri Chicken Don ($10.90+), which highlights a bright, piquant peri peri sauce.

Tiong Bahru Bakery has become a household name for quality French pastries, growing from strength to strength since their flagship in Eng Hoon Street. Continuing that reign is the latest Tiong Bahru Bakery outlet in The Foothills, at Fort Canning Park, just a couple of minutes away from Fort Canning MRT Station. Given that the space used to be an old swimming complex, the outlet is themed with swimming decor, albeit in TBB’s signature green-and-white colour palette.

For those of you going “another TBB outlet?”, let us take you through the differences. Yes, the standalone bakery will have all the brand’s best-selling favourites, but they also stock some exclusives. These include the Sourdough Croissant ($4.80), where denser sourdough meets the flaky whorls of a croissant and finished with a Nutella-esque hazelnut cremeux. On the beverage front, quench your thirst with the Sourdough Kvass ($5), available in thyme or mint. Like a thicker version of kombucha, this sourdough-based beverage is quite the quencher.

Step away from the bustle of town’s mainstream brunch locations and head over to JAM By Siri House, with their recently launched Weekend Brunch menu that is worth getting up on a weekend for. Asian fusion is the stronghold of the menu, with both small and large plates to share with your loved ones.

We loved the Arancini ($21++), a twist on the Italian staple with flavours that harkened to takoyaki, from the bits of octopus within each deep-fried ball, to the dashi-soaked Japanese rice used. For something more substantial, get the Katsu Burger ($29++), where a chunky slab of Iberico pork ribeye is dressed with piquant smoked chilli and nori mayo, then finished with pickled cabbage in between lightly toasted buns. Otherwise, their Spring Toast ($23++) is as pretty as a picture, and a level-up from typical toast, with goat’s cheese, an onsen egg, and a well-seasoned mushroom medley up top.

To sweeten the deal, JAM By Siri House has also launched an ultra-wallet friendly $12++ cocktail menu. Perk yourself up with spritzes like the Summertime Madness, an Aperol Spritz lightened by calamansi, or their Caffeinated Martini, made with dark rum, and a coffee liqueur crafted from Kopi O Kosong steeped for 10 hours.

Here’s a new late-night dessert spot for Northies—No Horse Run, cheekily named after the Hokkien phrase, bo beh zao. You can expect a slew of localised gelato flavours at this cafe, of which we enjoyed the Muah Chee ($5), speckled with crunchy peanut bits. Pair this with the Pandan Gula Melaka Waffles ($6.50) for a truly Singaporean twist on your dessert. Every order of waffles also comes with one of their four house-made sauces, that include Classic Maple Syrup, Childhood Milo, House-Made Jam, and Caramelised Cookie.

After a month-long hiatus, SUN With MOON Japanese Dining And Cafe has recently reopened its doors to the public, with new set meals available for lunch and dinner.
