Sentosa Will Have 20 Massive Star Wars Sand Sculptures Till 15 Sep & You Can Visit Them For Free

Sentosa Sandsation Brings You 20 Star Wars-Themed Sand Sculptures

Did the pictures of Sentosa Sandsation’s Marvel-themed sand sculptures give you major FOMO last year? Here’s the massive Iron-Man flying over New York display to jolt your memory.

Sentosa Sandsation is back again, and this year, it’s Star Wars-themed. If preview pictures are anything to go by, this is a must-go for all Star Wars fans from across the galaxy.

Star Wars’ vast desert landscape comes alive at Sentosa

As we do not have actual pictures of the sand sculptures yet, here are some pictures we found from the web to give you a gist of what you might expect there.

1. Darth Vader

Darth Vader – the anti-hero with the most infamous redemption arc – will definitely be resplendent as a towering sand sculpture, thanks to his iconic mask.

However, this could be the only time you’ll see him lounging on the gentle dunes on Siloso beach so don’t miss your chance.

2. Yoda

Recognised by its long ears and dwarfed physique, the incredibly wise Yoda might seem ‘cute’ or ‘cuddly’ to many people.

But if you’re at the event, you can probably expect him to be taller than you, so you may want to point your camera up for that selfie.

3. Jabba The Hutt

We’d expect that this notoriously slimy bad guy would most certainly ooze confidence as a vast sand sculpture too.

Jabba The Hutt will progressively be brought to life by renowned sculpter Joo Heng, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for this exhibit.

4. Chewbacca

Chewbacca is not a stranger even to those who aren’t big on Star Wars. Easily recognised by his furry exterior, it wouldn’t be hard to spot him when you’re there.

5. BB-8

BB-8 might just be one of the cutest Star Wars characters to-date, especially when it comes to the new generation of fans.

We’d absolutely love to get close to a life-sized version of its adorable rounded head and robot body.

Source

Seeing BB-8 IRL might result in you wishing to pet it, but kindly refrain from doing so. This BB-8 is made of sand, and not metal, so it’s best to ensure that the display remains untouched so other fans may enjoy it.

Even though we only included 5 sculptures, you can expect to see up to 20 bigger than life-sized sand exhibits at the event.

Sand-sculpting workshops & sand art

After admiring the beautiful sand art, you may be inspired to take part in sand-sculpting workshops yourself. You can expect to attend live demonstrations from the pro sand artists there, as long as you sign up in advance.

Those with extra time to spare, can also consider attending the Sentosa International Sand Sculpting Competition, to watch the experts at work.

If all that isn’t enough, you can also grab your picnic mats and head to Palawan Green for free Star Wars movie screenings — only available on 31 Aug & 1, 14, and 15 Sep.

You can visit the sculptures for free

The event will take place at Sentosa’s Siloso Beach from 31 Aug to 15 Sep, and lucky for us, entry is free.

In addition, S’poreans will also get to enjoy free admission into the island both via Sentosa Express or driving through the Sentosa Gateway vehicular gantry.

Venue: Sentosa Siloso Beach
Date: 31 Aug to 15 Sep
Time: 10am-8.30pm
Nearest MRT: HabourFront Station

So since it’s free, even if you’re not a Star-Wars fan, the fact that you have read till the end already proves your interest. So jio your friends and head down for some sandsational fun.

See you there!

Singaporean scammer gains S$3.56 million from phony investments, freely transports huge cash in and out of SG –

Singaporean Muhamad Aidith Abdul Latiff, 44 years old and the former director of a corporate training services company, allegedly scammed 29 people between February and August 2016 as he engaged them in fraudulent investments amounting to S$3.56 million. Aidith was charged in court on Aug. 22, 2019.

His “investment scheme” promised investors a 97% ROI and they were compelled to hand over to him cash from about S$1,000 to more than S$1.5 million each.

Money laundering charges

Aidith is also charged of smuggling cash in and out of Singapore between S$30,000 and S$50,000 through the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints between June 2015 and March 2016. He is facing 26 counts of failing to declare cross-border movement of cash.

If convicted, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined for each charge, unfortunately, Aidith is currently unrepresented and told the court he intends to find a lawyer to represent him.

He is now out on S$80,000 bail and will return to court on Sept. 12.

Reported scamming crimes in 2018

Last year, the total number of reported crimes increased by 1.4% or 33,134 cases, compared to the 32,668 cases committed in 2017.

E-commerce, loan, credit-for-sex and China officials impersonation scams, “remain a concern”, with the total number of scam cases which increased by 20.6%.

Loan scams increased by 151%, from 396 cases in 2017 to 994 cases in 2018. The largest amount cheated in a single case was nearly S$90,000.

The total amount cheated in e-commerce scams increased to about S$1.9 million in 2018 and the largest amount cheated in a single case was close to S$69,000.

Seventy per cent of the e-commerce scams took place on the online marketplace Carousell, police said, and involved electronic products and tickets to attractions like Universal Studios Singapore.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Esh Jegadeeshwaran Wadarajan, “Most scammers think they are very smart,” in a CNA interview he added that many of these “smart” scammers would already expect to be caught eventually and are prepared. “They all have a story to tell … to make themselves appear as victims too.”
