Changi Airport announced today it will suspend operations at Terminal 4 starting Saturday to save money amid the collapse of air travel.
The move comes after airport traffic fell 99.5% last month. Changi Airport Group, or CAG, said it would also close all stores and restaurants in the terminal, as well as its shuttle bus services, until demand returns.
“Even as terminal operations are scaled down during this period, CAG continues to work closely with its airline and airport partners and stands ready to restart operations at T4 as soon as a sufficient number of flights return to the terminal,” it said in the announcement.
Airline operations at Terminal 4 will be transferred to Terminals 1 and 3. Cathay Pacific and Korean Air will operate out of Terminal 1.
The airport said that the decision will enable it to save on costs such as “utilities and cleaning.”
The latest move comes just weeks after it closed Terminal 2 for an expected 18 months.
Just more than 25,000 travelers passed through Changi last month, compared to the 5,580,000 passengers it saw in April 2019.
