Elderly man, who attempted to rob Bedok pawn shop with chopper, arrested in Yishun –

A 67-year-old man, who allegedly attempted to rob a pawn shop in Bedok using a chopper, has been arrested in Yishun.

Chopper

On July 12, at about 1.55pm, the police were alerted to a case of attempted armed robbery in a ValueMax pawn shop located at Block 213 Bedok North Street 1.

The pawn shop manager said the man, who appeared to be in his 40s, hit the glass display panel with a chopper that afternoon, CNA reported.

The chopper, however, broke into two instead, which prompted the man to run off.

The entire incident lasted about five minutes and no one was physically harmed.

Arrested in Yishun

Subsequently, on July 13, the Singapore Police Force appealed to members of the public for information about the suspect.

The male suspect was subsequently arrested in Yishun about 32 hours after the alleged attempted robbery in Bedok.

According to Julius Lim, the deputy assistant commissioner of police and commander of Bedok police division, the suspect had tried to hide his identity by putting on a surgical mask and changing his clothes several times after he escaped.

He was dressed in a red shirt at the time of the alleged robbery, according to at least one eyewitness who worked in the shop.
