Indonesia confirms 2 Covid-19 cases, both came into contact with infected Japanese man – – News from Singapore, Asia and around the world


Two patients have tested positive for Covid-19 in Indonesia on Monday (Mar. 2).

Currently hospitalised

These are the first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country.

President Joko Widodo said, according to Reuters, that the two patients are currently hospitalised at the presidential palace in Jakarta.

However, he did not specify where the patients were being treated.

Came into contact with infected Japanese man who visited Indonesia

According to Kompas, the patients are a 64-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter.

They had apparently came into contact with an infected Japanese man.

The man tested positive for Covid-19 shortly after returning from an Indonesia trip.

He reportedly travelled to Indonesia for a vacation with his family on Feb. 15 and was hospitalised on Feb. 19.

Indonesian officials previously stated that they did not receive any additional information about the confirmed patient and thus, could not conduct further investigations.

But on Feb. 26, the authorities have started contact tracing in a hotel in Bali that the family had stayed in.
