Punggol Flat Resident Openly Complained About Water from Service Yard; Got Response About His Smoking Habit Instead

If you’re lived in an HDB, you would have seen your fair share of passive-aggressive notes posted, usually in the lifts or on the doors of the offending neighbours.

Well, this might just take the cake!

Both images of the original note and the response were posted on Reddit by the user, mordecai, under the subreddit “Days of Our HDB Lives” where a complaint over irresponsible water-pouring turned into a counter-complaint of the complainant’s smoking habit.

On the bright side, at least this note is more passive than aggressive despite being no less hilarious.

When cigarette smoke goes up, water comes down

Apparently, someone has been paying attention during physics class after all!

As Newton’s third law of motion goes, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

Not sure if this constitutes as an “equal” reaction but “opposite” sounds just about right!

It seems like the unneighbourly neighbour who was pouring water over their service yard upstairs to the chagrin of the people living below who had their washing out to dry… or in this case, to be drenched yet again, only did it because of cigarette smoke that wafted up from the lower floor.

Guess the saying “when you point a finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you” is oh so true.

Netizens on Reddit weighing in

The images have gotten over 1.2k views over just 13 hours and netizens on Reddit are eager to weigh in on the issue, with one saying, “Imagine paying 500k for this crap”.

However, the netizens who responded pointed out an equally valid point – “Nightmare neighbours” can be found everywhere and not just in HDBs.

After all, who could ever forget the infamous “Everitt Road Saga” involving 7 families living in landed properties along – thanks Capt Obvious – Everitt Road.

Some netizens, on the other hand, are basically adding fuel to the flame.

They propose a way for the neighbour from the lower floor to escalate the issue.

Instead of cigarette smoke, he could try burning onions and chillies (probably the bird’s eye sort).

The resulting smoke would definitely “burn” the nostrils – and likely the entire respiratory tract – of the upstairs neighbour like some really good wasabi.

As one netizen puts it, “(he accidentally) teared gas(s)ed (his) house before when (he) burnt chilli sauce in (the) microwave”.

Oh, and RIP English.

Some netizens even cynically pointed out that if you happen to be the unfortunate soul living in between the two feuding floors, well… Bonne chance.

“Good luck to you if you live in between the 2. Smoky wet clothes.”

You could tell your colleagues at the office that you’ve just been to a barbecue and jumped into a lake right after – that would make quite the story!

So you go to social media and it appears that everyone is agreeing with your views. Watch this video to the end and you’d realise that there’s a disturbing reason behind this:

Well, at least it’s just water and not still-lit cigarette butts as one unfortunate HDB-living netizen noted.

“My neighbour upstairs have (has) the habit of throwing his cigarette butts out of the kitchen window after smoking. Very unfortunately one of the days, he threw a ciggy down and it landed on my white shirt and burnt a black hole.”

He probably should be thankful that it only caused a hole and not a fire.
