A former senior psychology lecturer with the National University of Singapore (NUS), 59 year old Chan Cheng was finally found guilty of molesting five teenage boys. He had been on the run for 17 years, after escaping to Malaysia in 1999.
He had been accused of molesting the five teenage boys at a 3 day school camp at Guillemard Camp, located at Old Airport Road. The former teacher had been scheduled to appear in court on November 29, 1999, to face the charges against him, but never showed up. A warrant of arrest was issued against him, but he was never caught for 17 years. He had his employment contract at NUS terminated immediately after he fled form facing charges.
Chan could face a maximum of two years in prison for every molestation charge against him, as well as be made to pay a fine. Since he is older than 50, he cannot be caned for his offences.
