Teck Whye Lane fight suspects revisit crime scene on Mar. 4, charged with rioting & unlawful assembly – – News from Singapore, Asia and around the world

A fight broke out between two groups of men on Feb. 27, and heavily armed policemen were seen in pursuit at the scene at Teck Whye Lane.

These scenes were captured on photos and video, and circulated on social media.

14 men from 2 groups arrested

Within 28 hours of the incident on Feb. 27, 13 suspects were arrested at various locations in Jalan Bukit Merah, West Coast Road, Yishun, Bukit Batok and Lower Kent Ridge Road.

13 men arrested for rioting at Choa Chu Kang. Knife, knuckle dusters & metal bar seized.

A 14th suspect was subsequently arrested on Mar. 2.

Police documents revealed that the suspects are aged between 17 and 29, and that the men came from at least two groups.

Variety of weapons involved

One of the groups involved in the fight comprised of at least eight men. The weapons they carried included a knife and a knuckle-duster.

The other group comprised of at least five men armed with parangs.

Meanwhile, the offensive weapons in the case of the 14th suspect included two knives and one sickle.

Five of the suspects were brought to the crime scene on Wed., Mar. 4.

Suspects charged in court

As of Wed., Mar. 4, six of the 14 men are facing charges.

Farhan Bin Elias, 18, Mohamad Haikel Bin Rahmat, 18, and Muhammad Irman Shah Putera Bin Roslan, 20, have been charged with rioting with a deadly weapon under Section 148 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they can be jailed for up to 10 years, and caned.

Syafiq Bin Safari, 18, and Zahiruddin Ariffin Bin Zilsham, 17, have been charged with unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon, under Section 144 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they can be jailed for up to five years, or caned, or fined, or be subjected to any combination of such punishments.

Meanwhile, the 14th suspect, Mohammad Helmi Bin Parmadi, has been charged with possession of offensive weapons. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to three years, and at least 6 strokes of the cane.

Investigations ongoing

Police investigations are ongoing, to ascertain the involvement of the remaining 8 suspects, and to confirm whether there are more suspects involved.
